At last! The winner is announced!! All comments gathered and drawn out of a hat. The lucky winner is called Fiona Robertson from Kirkwall and she wrote this moving piece about what the sea means to her:
“The sea is my happy place. I lost my mum a few weeks ago, and I’ve spent many hours by the shore to clear my head. In between hospital visits I would go to Scapa a walk. Since she passed I use the changing sea views, colours and sound of the waves crashing to help me through this time. “
Thanks to everyone that entered and I loved reading all your beautiful thoughts of the sea.
Similar experience when I lost my wife in the McMillan unit of the Old Balfour Hospital.
I would also walk on the beach.
Until a few months after her death I had to have an emergency evacuation from Stronsay after falling off a ladder.
To end up in the Balfour myself.
Ironic or God has a sense of humour.
My goodness!!Orkney beaches can be of great comfort and excellent therapy.
